Lobbying and Letter Writing
Unlike last year when the Executive Budget singled out higher education for the deepest cuts, this year's proposed budget, with one notable exception, is more balanced.That one exception was the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) Pataki proposes a restructuring of TAP where students will receive 2/3rds of their TAP award during their undergraduate career; they would need to borrow the remaining one-third, receiving repayment from the state only if they graduate.
Funding for the Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP) falls 5% from $22 million to $20.9 million.
Direct Institutional (Bundy) Aid fall 5% from $44.25 million to $42 million.
The Science and Technology Entry Program and Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP/C-STEP) fall 5% from $10 million to $9.5 million.
