WHAT IS SSS? 
Student Support Services (SSS) is a program authorized by the U.S. Department of Education as a trIO program. The program identifies and provides academic support services for students who are admitted to the University but are educationally "at risk" due to economic circumstances, academic background, an/or their status as a first-generation college student

Students enrolled in SSS receive advising, counseling, tutoring, and other supportive services throughout their college career. Syracuse University also demonstrates its commitment to this program by providing participants with full need financial aid awards.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS 
Academic

  • Meet all requirements for admission to Syracuse University (see Undergraduate Application for Admission) and be admitted to Syracuse University for the current year.
  • Show evidence of need for academic services.
Other Criteria
Student or family must meet one or more of the following criteria:
  • Income must not exceed federal economic guidelines for Student Support Services listed at the bottom of this page or
  • Provide verification of documented learning disability (if applicable) or
  • Must be a first-generation college student (neither parent completing a bachelor's degree)
Note: Students enrolled in SSS must attend a six-week SummerStart program before their first fall enrollment at Syracuse University.

Applying to Student Support Services 
Admitted students are automatically considered for SSS. No separate application is required.

SSS Financial Aid 
Once you are admitted to the Student Support Services program, you will receive a financial aid package that will meet your basic educational expenses. To be eligible for the standard Student Support Services financial aid package, all applicants must complete an submit the following:

  • FAFSA Freshman should apply after January 1 and no later than February 15.
  • New York State TAP application (NY State residents only) will be facilitated from your FAFSA information. This will generate a TAP application that should be returned no later than April 15th
  • Federal Stafford Loan You will receive instructions with your award letter on how to apply for this loan
In addition to the New York State TAP and Federal Pell grants your financial aid package will include other grants from Syracuse University and the federal government, loans and Federal College Work-Study award.
